"Body Art" by Amanda M. Zimmer, February/March 2011

I came upon my idea for this piece when we began to look for examples of "body art". A simple Google search gives hundreds of photographs and videos of body art in the form of tattoos and art that is physically placed on the body's skin. I decided to take this idea further with the idea that the images that people place upon themselves act as a reflection of who they are, sort of like a self portrait.

So I used the idea of "body art" as a means of showing memories and places the body has been physically on the body, using the body as a canvas for the artwork. I used a series of around 60 photographs that I had taken as the artwork that flashes over the body. I was originally going to have the art be on top of the skin but found that was difficult to do technically in the program to get a good effect.

The main point to take away here is that the body can be used as a canvas that can showcase the memories and images that are displayed in the mind of the body as a different form of the term "body art".
